Pit Bull Extravaganza
It's been a great week for pit bull/staffordshire rescues, which just goes to show you how the bad-breed stereotype, once again, can be so, so wrong. Not only was Rita scooped up (and currently the superstar of dogs at the vet's office where she is being boarded), but also (above, clockwise from top left), Rachel, Lea, Illusion (named for Caesar Millan's wife and rescued along with the father of her puppies - a chihuahua) and Mandy. All these dogs were championed by shelter volunteers and staff, who recognized their fine qualities and pushed for their rescue.
But don't forget the ones left behind! Here are just a few still waiting for a rescuer:
Chris admitted to me the other day that pit bulls intimidate him. They kind of scare me, he said. So I told him that you can't judge a dog by its breed, just like you can't judge people by their ethnicities, and you never know what kind of temperament and personality a dog will have until you spend some time with that dog. Every one is different. He admitted that he'd never gotten to know a pit bull personally.
Now's your chance! All of these dogs need homes today.
