Today's Rescue - Buck

This is Buck. He's supposedly a chow mix, but looks more like a lab-sized Chesapeake Bay retriever. He's currently being held at the South L.A. shelter, and oh, yeah - he has no lower jaw.

You may be asking yourself, "How can a dog survive without a lower jaw?", but Buck - who is 5 years old - has managed to persevere, although I can't imagine how. It's must be like trying to clap with one hand.

Anyway, Buck needs donations so he can get out of there. His life is hard enough already. Rita, the South L.A. volunteer whose tireless efforts have helped save many a dog, is corralling money to encourage a rescue group to pull sweet, mellow Buck, and the fund currently stands at $400 - barely enough for an office visit to the veterinarian.

If you have any money to spare - $20? $10? $5? - anything will help because as we know, it takes a village. Or at least a big neighborhood.

Help save Buck. You'll be so glad you did.
