Today's Rescue

Although the Best Friends adoption festivals are great events, there are always dogs that get overlooked. Here are just a few:

PACIDO AND FREIDO - a father-and-son shepherd-mix duo, 11 and 9 years old, respectively. Adopted as puppies and dumped as seniors. Sweet, gentle, calm dogs.

ID#: A235320 (Pacido) and A223815 (Freido)
West Valley Shelter
($1000 in donations available to qualified rescue for both dogs)

COCO - a well-mannered, super friendly, 2-3-year-old chow chow/shepherd mix. Got along with all the other dogs at the event. She's even good on leash! Perhaps she can give Arthur a few tips.

ID#: A862845
West Valley Shelter

MOLLY - a 10-year-old purebred Beagle. Who could resist that face? Such a sweet girl.

ID#: A871874
East Valley shelter

JOE - a 2-year-old German shepherd mix who looks like he loves being on stage. I really like his big paws. Sweet, calm Joe has been redlisted and is running out of time.

ID#: A862467
West L.A. Shelter

PETUNIA - Everyone who meets this staffordshire mix loves her. Truly. The boards are full of praise for her: gets along with everyone (humans of all ages and other dogs), very affectionate and sweet, loves to play. Trouble is, she's a black bully breed and not the easiest to adopt despite the fact that she's better tempered than so many other dogs. The shelter staff loves her. You will love her. Like Joe, she is redlisted and scheduled for euthanization if she's not adopted soon.

ID#: A853955
East Valley Shelter

UPDATE: Petunia is off the L.A. Animal Services Web site and has possibly been adopted!

LANA - this 6-year-old German shepherd mix's festival handler called her "perfect." Loves people, loves other dogs. Sweet. Good-natured. What more could you want?

ID#: A868564
South L.A. Shelter
