No-Kill Weekend

This Saturday (as in, tomorrow), L.A. Animal Services is holding a special event that they're calling the "Paw-fect Match Super Adoption" at all six of their shelters. The name is unfortunate, but the intention is good: it's a pledged no-kill weekend, and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. tomorrow, professional animal trainers and adoption counselors will be available to answer questions and assist first-time adopters in finding just the right pet. Plus, microchipping will be free! At the South L.A. shelter, Cesar Millan, the Dog Whisperer himself, will be holding court from noon to 2 p.m.

Hopefully, little Tilly, an 8-month-old German Shepherd mix that I saw today, will be scooped up. This sweet little girl doesn't belong in there. If you talk softly to her and let her smell your hand, her big ears will pop right up ("before" picture, above).

Listen to Cesar - adopt a dog!

German Shepherd mix
8 months old

This is so heartbreaking. These are wonderful dogs. I will say a prayer. I wonder if someday the politicians in LA will see the kind of pain they have inflicted on sentient, innocent, helpless beings and have remorse. When will LA go No Kill 365 days a year?

And let's also push for more education in the communities, for more humane treatment of animals in general, and the importance of spay/neuter!
