Don't Eat This

As if to fuel my already obsessive paranoia about the quality of commercial dog food, a major manufacturer of said product announced on Friday that they were recalling 60 million containers of wet dog and cat food because it was causing kidney failure. Sixty million! Apparently, contaminated wheat gluten (a cheaper-than-meat protein) used in the "cuts and gravy" - style dinners was to blame. Among the 50 brands affected are Iams, Eukanuba and Nutro.

Maybe now the FDA will get off their lazy arses and start regulating pet food.

CNN story: "Mass recall of dog and cat food after pets die"

Correction: Apparently, the FDA does regulate pet food - it just does a really crappy job.
