AB 1634 Update
The Healthy Pets Act went in front of the state Senate Local Government Committee yesterday afternoon, and did not pass through. Thanks a lot, breeders. However, the senators have agreed to work with Assemblymember Lloyd Levine (the bill's author) to make the changes that could feasibly get it passed in January. According to Judie Mancuso, AB 1634's campaign director, the senators were "engaged, compassionate and open-minded" about the issue, which I find incredible. When was the last time you heard those adjectives used to describe politicians?
Anyway, in the meantime, the euthanizations continue, and the shelters are more crowded than ever. The sweet 4-month-old labrador/shepherd mix in the picture above was one of the many unwanted animals put to sleep in Los Angeles this week.
Like I said, thanks a lot, breeders.
